The Froze Bowl
As kids growing up in Massachusetts, the mark of a truly cold day was whether or not  your snots froze.

No, we're not trying to be disgusting.  But this was one of those days.  Daytime temperatures peaked in the single digits.  And the forecast for thermometers dipping into the negative was better than accurate.

We met our home team counterparts, Zip, Mrs B, Monty, and gang, at 3:00pm at the Dunkin Donuts, and then all caravaned into the stadium parking lot together.  There was an obvious rush to put up the canopies and side-flaps as the winds were blowing at an even 10 mph keel all day.

Everyone in the group scrambled to get the gear set up and the grills burning.  Unbeknownst to us, our propane tanks had frozen on the trip up. And upon screwing them into the nozzle were treated to a nasty spray of icy cold liquid propane.  Aaaarrgghhh!  It was like having your hands dipped in liquid nitrogen.  No joke!

Eventually we found a tank which hadn't completely frozen, lit the fire, and quickly threw on the pot of Southern chili.  We huddled within the confines of our make-shift shelter, toasted to Karen's recent award (way to go!) as Fleet Fan of the Year, lit stogies, and had a chili competition.   How did Murphy's Patriots chili compare you ask?  It didn't.  Didn't make it out of the pot, that is.  It was still cold after 30 minutes on the grill!  But that wasn't the half of it:

-Put down your favorite beverage for two minutes - it became a Shiner Bock slushy.

-Push the button on your digital camera - it snapped the picture 6 seconds later.

-Stand in line for the Port-a-John, and you immediately understood the difference between good steam and bad steam.  Okay, maybe we're being a little disgusting.

Welcome to the "Froze Bowl" ladies and gentleman.  This was the coldest home game in New England history.  We all wrapped ourselves in layers of thermal underwear, fleece jackets, hand warmers, and blankets....and we still froze our butts offs!
